Description

The Owyhee Canyonlands offer superb river running from April through June each year. This is the longest back country river system in the Northwest. It is an exciting time to discover the Owyhee Canyonlands because not only is it already the most remote area in the lower 48 states, the Owyhee Initiative has resulted in legislation which has designated 517,000 acres of the Jarbidge/Bruneau/Owyhee as Wilderness. This initiative has added 316 miles of river to the nation's Wild and Scenic river system. Options to do a 5, 6, or 7 day trip. Options to add hiking to the excursion.

        Description

Client will float through the headwaters of the Owyhee River basin, dropping deeper and deeper into the main canyon as rhyolite cliffs tower over the river. During this trip expect to drift through tranquil stretches, alternating with class IV-V rapids. The Owyhee River offers fantastic hiking opportunities throughout it's river corridor and side canyons. Consider adding 2-3 days of a vehicle-supported Canyoneering/Hiking Expedition to your river trip. You will be driven by vehicle to day hikes, canyon overlooks, hot springs, and the most spectacular side canyons in the region. Expect to hike during the day and in the evening and then relax in a luxurious camp set up by the guides. These adventures allow client to see the primary river gorge, plus many remote canyons that cannot be reached from the river. Options to do a 5, 6, or 7 day trip. Options to add hiking to the excursion.

        Description

The weather is impossible to predict. Client may not need to use all of the gear listed here, but it is recommended to bring it all. Plan to "layer" for maximum comfort. On the rafts, guides typically wear nylon shorts, T-shirt, cap, and sandals or tennis shoes, with rain gear and Capilene underwear, etc. (Handy in one of our day bags in case of a shower or if the weather becomes cool). Outfitter recommends QUALITY rain gear (Daytime temperatures can reach the 90s while nights can be cool. Showers can bring cooler daytime temperatures) NOTE: Wool, polypro, pile, and fleece items are important as they provide warmth when wet. Wet cotton fabrics drain heat from the body, and should not be substituted for these items.
